One of the most common questions I got from those of you who responded to my recent survey was, ‘who are you and how can you help me?’ Two questions actually, and two of the best you could ask.
I know we have a new relationship and you don’t know me very well yet, so I want to answer those questions.
Who Am I?
If you want some of the basics you can go to my About page and get some of the scoop there. But here’s my story.
I grew up a good girl in a good family. Until I began to rebel in my later teens, (sorry Mom and Dad) I did what others told me and paid attention to what I thought others wanted of me. As I got into my teenage years I wasn’t particularly happy – and I think likely depressed.
I went to college, I went to work, I got a graduate degree, and I continued to work. I had a lot of friends, dated, and I lived in some pretty cool places. I did the normal things I thought I was supposed to do for a very long time.
But I got more and more depressed and nothing really satisfied me. I constantly sought change and tried to change everything outside me to feel better.
Then, I started looking inside me, both from a spiritual and psychological perspective, and that is the journey that I’ve been on for almost 30 years. And every year has gotten better and better. I began to discover and listen to that Wise Voice inside me that always steered me in the right direction.
About 9 years ago I finally got it — a 40 hour work week working for someone else just wasn’t for me! The big realization came when I began coming home crying every night from my executive job and I could only muster enough energy on the weekends to watch HGTV. I was also kind of a b*tch to be around.
Even though I had been trained to work for a steady stable paycheck, I planned, prepared and set sail into creating businesses that work for me. I craved freedom and that was my guiding value.
Something that’s important to know is that I’m a constant self improver (and a trained psychotherapist). I believe that it is our job as humans on this planet to grow and evolve. Because of that I’ve learned a lot about what it takes to grow out of pain and suffering and I’ve helped a lot of people, including myself, do just that.
What I stand for: freedom and personal responsibility – for me and for you
What I’m really really good at: seeing patterns in people, telling the truth in a really nice way, distilling big concepts into bite size pieces, asking great questions, and skiing
What my husband calls me: a voracious consumer of information
What I love: beauty, travel, reading, music, my friends and family, change, really good wine, conversation that sparkles new ideas, dinner parties
My current dream involves: a camper, my camera and laptop, and 3 months in the western US with friends and family tagging along
My passion: changing women’s lives in as many ways as I can
My next vacation: Umbria, Italy and Barcelona, Spain
My bad habits: not exercising as much as is good for me, avoidance
My favorite place in my house: my bed
Coffee or tea?: definitely coffee!
How’s that? Got a better picture of me? Stay tuned since in the next post I will answer the second question you asked: how can you help me?
